CATEGORY OF YOGASANA SPORTS
The Yogasana Sports is divided into following categories:
- TRADITIONAL YOGASANA CHAMPIONSHIP
- ARTISTIC YOGASANA CHAMPIONSHIP (SINGLE)
- ARTISTIC YOGASANA CHAMPIONSHIP (PAIR)
- RHYTHMIC YOGASANA CHAMPIONSHIP (PAIR)
- YOGA DANCE (For female only)
- YOGASANA ON ROPE
AGE GROUP
- Sub Junior – Female and Male between 12 – 15 years
- Junior – Female and Male between 15 – 19 years
- Senior – Female and Male between 19 – 25 years
- Elderly – Female and Male between 25 – 40 years
RULES & REGULATIONS FOR THE COMPETITION
a. Traditional Yogasan: Traditional Yogasan is a demonstration of asanas (postures) based on the theory of yog-shastra “posture performed with the perfection and relaxation without strain”. Traditional Yogasana Competition will consist of three sequences in each age group (1) first sequence will consist of five compulsory asanas (postures) and one optional asana (posture) (2) second sequence will consist of five compulsory asanas (postures) and two optional asanas (posture) and the (3) third sequence will consist of 5 optional asanas of different nature. Holding time for each asana (posture) will be 30 seconds. Optional asanas will be from outside the given syllabus and will be as per the choice of the competitor but holding time will remain 30 seconds. Only those who qualify in first sequence will be competing in the second round and those who qualify in second round will move to final round.

b. Artistic Yogasana: Artistic Yoga consists of presentation of various asanas (postures) including forward and backward bending, balancing, front and backward lying postures, sitting postures, etc. performed in all four directions with music. It is synchronization of body movement with music (without break). Number of postures performed should be 8-10 of competitor’s choice. Time duration for the presentation will be 120 to 150 seconds. Time taken less than 120 seconds and more than 150 seconds will lead to deduction of points.
c. Artistic Yogasana (Pair): Artistic Pair Yoga consist of presentation of various asanas (postures) including forward and backward bending, balancing, front and backward lying postures, sitting postures etc. including pyramid making, performed in all four directions with music of competitors choice. The following precautions should be taken into consideration for the competition:
(i) The pair will consist of either both the girls or both the boys or a boy and a girl.
(ii) Both the participants will perform two different postures at a time. Performing same posture or same nature of posture will be a disqualification.
(iii) Body touch is allowed in the competition.
(iv) Making of pyramid will be given preference.
(v) Synchronization of body movements with music will be given top preference.
(vi) Time duration for the presentation will be 120-150 seconds.
d. Rhythmic Yogasana: Rhythmic yoga is also known as pair Yoga. The pair may consist of either both the boys or both the girls. Pair of one boy and one girl is not allowed. Rhythmic Yoga is the presentation of various asanas (postures) including forward and backward bending, balancing, front and backward lying postures and sitting postures etc. performed in all four directions with music. However the following precautions are to be taken:
(i) The same posture should be performed by the pair together.
(ii) There should not be any variation in postures at a time performed by the pair.
(iii) There should not be any body touch between the two participants.
(iv) There should be perfect synchronization of body movements with the music.
(v) The number of postures performed should be 8-10 of competitor’s choice.
(vi) Time duration for the presentation will be 120-150 seconds.
- Yoga Dance: Only single participant will participate in this event. The participant can perform any traditional dance form in their traditional uniform. The dance sequence should have four to six Yogasana (Yoga Postures) of different nature which should be artistically incorporated in their dance performance. The following precautions are to be taken :
(i) There should be perfect synchronization of body movement with the music.
(ii) The yogasana (yoga postures) should be incorporated in the dance form in such a manner that it should not look as a separate entity rather it should be a part of the dance performance.
(iii) Time duration will be 3 to 4 minutes. Less or more time taken will lead to deduction in marks.
(iv) This event is only for female
- Yogasana on Rope:
- Time duration for the performance will be between 90 to 120 seconds (2 minutes). Asanas performed after that time will not be counted for Marks.
- Performer must perform his Yogasana Skill on the apparatus.
- By the definition of Yoga, the pose must be Steady & Pleasing to performer.
- Performer must demonstrate his ability in forward bending, backward bending, leg stretching and strength.
- Only the steady elements will be counted/ judged.
g. Champion of champions :
Champion of champions will be selected in male as well as in female category. Best two from each group (i.e. sub junior, junior and senior boys and girls) will be taken on the basis of their performance in athletic Yoga. They will be given 5 Asanas of Judges choice to perform and two voluntary Asanas of their choice. On this basis one best champion will be selected in male as well as in female category. Special award will be given to both the champions. They will also be sent to foreign country to represent Indian Yoga delegation.
EVALUATION
For each competition there will be 1 Superior Judge, 4 judges, 1 Time Keeper, 2 Scorer and 1 Referee to conduct the competition and evaluate the performance
